Pre-Party: How to be a Badass Public Commenter

2-3 PM | Zoom (Meeting Link)

Get a preview for the week ahead and tips on how to make effective public comments at City meetings. If you want help preparing a comment, we’ll pair you with a buddy.

Monday Meet-Up

6-7 PM | City Hall: Council Chambers

Chat with neighbors, grab some snacks, and bring your public comment to get encouragement and feedback. Fear of public speaking? Us too — show your support by just being present. (Being a commenter at City Council requires advance sign-up and selection by lottery; we'll explain this on Sunday!)

7-8 PM | City Hall: Council Chambers & Zoom

We’ll cheer on pro-neighborhood speakers in the initial public comment period (about an hour). Depending on what's on the agenda (posted on Legistar the Friday before), some may stay longer.

City Planning Commission Meeting (City of Ann Arbor)

We’ll cheer on pro-neighborhood speakers in the initial public comment period! If the Comprehensive Plan is on the agenda (posted on Legistar the Friday before), the meeting may be rescheduled to start at 5:30 PM.

Neighborhood Fundamentals: Housing, Transportation, and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan

Featuring Jonathan Levine, SaraEllen Strongman, and Molly Kleinman! Why is it so hard to rent or buy in Ann Arbor? What are our barriers to walking, biking, or taking transit? How can we envision a better future? Designed for newcomers to housing, planning, and transportation safety activism, these expert-led conversations will cover the essentials of how we got here — and where we're going. Dinner at 7pm, while talks begin at 7:15pm.​

Dream Big: Shaping Your Community Vision into Reality

7-9 PM | Rackham Amphitheater

Featuring Gaurav Kulkarni, Adam Goodman, Donnell Wyche, and Linh Song! There's lots to love about Ann Arbor, but what does the best version of the city look like? In these sessions, speakers will challenge your perspectives, illustrate why this is a watershed moment in Ann Arbor's trajectory, and show you how you can make a city that's affordable, sustainable, and fun! Join us for discussion to imagine the future of Ann Arbor.

Kerrytown & Downtown Walking Tour

10-11 AM | Kerrytown Farmer's Market

This guided tour will challenge you to think about how history and policy choices shape the way places grow and our experiences in the built environment. Tour is around one mile, ending near the downtown library.

What's new with AADL? What can we expect from the passage of Proposals A&B? Bring your questions and ideas to this informal brown bag lunch.

Bikeapalooza (Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority)

12-2 PM | Fifth Avenue and William Street

An annual, family-friendly educational event celebrating downtown Ann Arbor’s protected bikeway network. There will be live music, giveaways, face painting, and fun activities! Learn more at a2dda.org/bikeapalooza.

Great Neighborhoods: Lightning Talks

6-8 PM | U-M Ross, Robertson Auditorium

Hear from experts, activists, and passionate neighbors as they share research, civic insights, and inspiring stories in fast-paced presentations. In just 3–5 minutes each, speakers will spark new ideas and practical takeaways—so everyone leaves with fresh inspiration and tools to make a difference! Dinner at 6pm in the Stewart Lobby; talks begin at 6:30pm.​

  • Rackham Amphitheater (Friday) provides wheelchair access to the audience area, but not the stage.

  • Robertson Auditorium (Saturday) has ramp and elevator access.

All events are located in the downtown area, close to bike parking, AAATA The Ride, and U-M Bus network. See below for specific details on getting to our main events.

  • To Ross Blau Hall/Robertson Auditorium: The Ride offers the 4, 5, 6, 62. U-M Bus offers Commuter South, Diag-to-Diag, Northwood Express.

  • To Rackham Amphitheater: The Ride offers the 3, 4/104, 23, 61, 63, 65. All U-M Bus routes run by Rackham, through the CCTC.

  • To Ross Blau Hall/Robertson Auditorium: outdoor racks on the north side of the building, between Tappan Avenue and E University Street (see pin)

FAQ

Who will be speaking or presenting?

Most events are led by local advocates, researchers, and experts. For Saturday, anyone can submit a lightning talk idea to present.

What topics will be covered?

Land use (housing, local businesses), transportation (Vision Zero, walking, biking, transit), policy (the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, zoning), accessibility, community-building, and so much more!

​

Do I need prior knowledge on urban planning or design?

Not at all. Neighborhood Week is for anyone interested in making Ann Arbor more vibrant and inclusive. Our goal is to help you gain knowledge and become empowered for local change.

​​

How much does this event cost?

Our events are free. Donations are optional — they help fund food and printing costs. Anything extra gets donated to the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County.

​

Will there be food served?

Light refreshments will be provided for Thursday and Saturday evening events. Handlebar Happy Hour will serve free pizza and $1 off 12 oz pours.

​

How can I support?
This is an entirely free event for the public. Your support helps us make Neighborhood Week possible.

  • Volunteer to help out in planning, staffing events, or offering skills or time.

  • Chip in a few bucks so we can supply refreshments (select “Neighborhood Week 2025” in the donation dropdown).
